Selinunte |

Situated on an esplanade, about 30 above the se level, Selinunte take its name from Selinon, the wild parsley.
It
was founded by colonists coming from Megara Hyblaea, guided by Pammilos,
in the 7th century B.C..
The
archaeological area of Selinunte is formed by the Acropolis, the eastern
Hill, the plateau of Contrada Manuzza, the sanctuary of the Malophoros and
the two Necropolises (Manicalunga and Galera Bagliazzo).

On
the hill of the Acropolis,
the
remains of five temples and on the eastern hill stand the ruins of other
three.
The
archaeological area is impressive for its immensity and its richness and
offers to the visitor a complete picture of the Greek culture. Selinunte
offers not only archaeological beauties, but it is
also a lively seaside-resort : the ideal place to spend a pleasant
holiday.
